Klum in Kostum

Heidi Klum has become renowned for her annual Halloween party (and the insanely intricate costumes she wears to them). Here’s a nice gallery of her disguises, from Sexy Cat:…to Betty Boop:…to Kali, Hindu Destroyer Goddess:…to, I guess, Vampire Lady Godiva:
Last night she tweeted her 2011 costume as a work-in-progress. Let’s take a look!
She is gorgeous isn’t she?

Oh, a bald cap. Maybe… Kojak? Uncle Fester?

Oh, good lord…

A skinned corpse. Wow.

Let’s cleanse the palate a little. In 2002, for GQ's 45th Anniversary Issue, Klum donned the mantles of several twentieth-century Sex Goddesses, from Brigitte Bardot to Farrah Fawcett to Phoebe Cates to Jessica Rabbit.Beauty may be only skin deep, but I prefer Heidi with that skin to without.

National Tennis Month: Ana Ivanovic, 2010

We end National Tennis Month with Ana Ivanovic.TRIVIA: Like fellow tennis player/swimsuit model Anna Kournikova, Ana has inspired a song. “Hurricane Ana” is the creation of Serbian rapper Filip Filipi (aka “Sin”).
Opening lyric:
“They should name a hurricane after her.”

Turns out, they’ve tried to do just that. Six times.

(The song doesn’t seem to have any tennis in it whatsoever, but it does reference Donatella Versace, Islam, stocks and bonds, pelican migration, the songs of Elvis Presley and Sade, and “The Lion King.”)

National Tennis Month: Anna Kournikova, 2004

Here we have a pic that’s the opposite of Steffi Graf’s. Anna Kournikova lounges on the sand while the waves lap at her. She’s much softer looking, much more at home in a girlie magazine. If I didn’t know she was a tennis player, I would probably not have blinked at her presence in the swimsuit issue.

TRIVIA: The band Tin Hat Trio has a musical piece called “Anna Kournikova” on their album “Helium.” It’s a lilting, two-and-a-half-minute acoustic tango of guitar, accordion and violin. I have no idea why it's named after her.

Buddha and the Beach

I was searching for some unrelated thing a week or so ago, and I stumbled upon this statue:
Does it look familiar?
The name of the statue is “The Final Nirvana of the Blessed One.” The position is a staple of Buddhist imagery.

When I saw it, I did a double take. It is stunningly reminiscent of one of the classic poses for a swimsuit model.
This description is from that link: “the left foot is positioned right on top of the right foot.”
It’s not a natural position to be in, and it would be uncomfortable after a while, but swimsuit models do it to give us a survey of the real estate.
I love this pose. There’s something so archetypal about a girl in a swimsuit on her side, legs together, head propped up.
Also from that link, it is “important especially to note the difference in position of the right hand.” If it is propping the head up, like these glamorous beauties, he is resting.
If it is at an angle, he is preaching his last prophesy. And if it is lying down next to the body, he has entered into Nirvana (passed away).
Our condolences to Paulina’s family. But it seems she has achieved transcendental enlightenment.

All the Models to the Floor Right Now

Kanye West name-checks a bunch of SI models in his song “Christian Dior Denim Flow.” Here is the roster:

Yo, Kanye, I’m really happy for you, I’ma let you finish. But I must correct a couple things.

First of all, “Gomes” does not rhyme with “homes.” It rhymes with, well, “Gomez.” AND SO HELP ME, KANYE, IF YOU DAMAGE ONE HAIR ON HER HEAD…

Second, Bar and Esti are probably not friends.
